Location: Scala dei Giganti- Doge’s palace, Venice, Italy

Sculptor: Jacopo Sansovino

Date: 1565- Gothic period

Dimensions: approximately 3.5 meters

Significance of the work:

This sculpture stands besides the Sculptor of Neptune in the Doge’s Palace in Venice. As the Doge was crowned or entered his palace on the Scala dei Giganti Mars’s presence would remind him of Venice’s power over land and war.
